David Rathbone

I've been eagerly awaiting my finished copy of fine art photographer David Rathbone’s photo book Big Water, which was just printed. David and I collaborated on the design, sequencing, and production of his book of 40 gorgeous medium-format black-and-white images. Simple and clean, very much in the spirit of such classic photo books as Michael Kenna’s Northern England, Big Water documents Virginia's beautiful Eastern Shore, near Virginia Beach, and the utility and purpose David sees in its land and water. The book was printed in duotone by Puritan Press, a New Hampshire company that has a long history of collaborating with artists and national museums on fine art books. The hardbound book’s outstanding print quality reflects their exceptional skill and inspires me to complete a book I’m working on of my pinhole photos.
