Barking Dog Winery

Barking Dog is a young, 15-acre vineyard southeast of Bald Peak State Park near Newberg, Oregon. With commanding views of the Willamette Valley, the Red Hills of Dundee, and Ribbon Ridge, the vineyard offers a secluded, sun-kissed microclimate nestled in the foothills of the Chehalem Mountains. Emory Fry, Barking Dog’s owner and one of my oldest friends, asked me to design the logo and labels for their inaugural wines, which already have received glowing reviews. The labels use paintings of the Willamette Valley by the Vancouver-based artist David Haughton, a former high school teacher of ours who also directed a production of The Pirates of Penzance that both Emory and I were in.

It was an enormous pleasure to collaborate with these old friends on this branding project for Barking Dog, which takes its name from Emory’s other labor of love in the hills of Western Oregon — providing a home to rescued golden retrievers.
