I spent over a year working with a hugely talented international team of web developers on Sirona, a powerful and comprehensive web application and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform for the US Navy. Sirona’s cutting-edge knowledge management system was designed for real-time access to clinical data, documents, diagnostic guidance, risk prediction, decision support, and planning services. Sirona could be used, for example, by a military hospital system to predict how many psychologists it would need to hire over a defined course of time to manage acute PTSD among a platoon of troops returning from a specific war theater, as well as more pithy details such as how many rooms would be needed to manage therapeutic treatment.

Given the complexities of the Sirona site requirements a clear and effective user interface was essential. We spent the  better part of a year with the Sirona team researching stakeholder requirements and clarifying the site structure, logic, and interface. In addition to designing the site’s carefully developed visuals and user interface system we designed Sirona’s overall branding.

The experience of working with a smart team of developers for over a year, led by retired navy doctor Emory Fry, was extraordinary. Typically my client projects are small and have a turnaround that is anywhere from four to twelve weeks start to finish. The schedule for this project allowed for methodical UI development and site testing.
