The City College of New York approached us in 2016 to design a website for the Simon H. Rifkind Center for the Humanities & the Arts, a college program that promotes intellectual and cultural activities in the Humanities and Arts. The Center supports faculty research, special events, conferences and lectures, interdisciplinary faculty seminars, student outreach programs, and a number of publications associated with the College.
We worked closely with the Center’s Director in analyzing their needs and requirements. In addition to giving the Center a strong online presence they previously lacked this included basic about pages, the ability to promote upcoming events and archive past events, and the ability to push content to social media. We used a WordPress theme for the site and configured it to apply design and functionality choices that supported the Center’s mission and needs. After launching the site we trained the Center’s staff to use the WordPress content management system so that they could maintain the site themselves.
The Simon H. Rifkind Center for the Humanities & the Arts was established in 1986 through a grant from the Winston Foundation, “in recognition of a revered son of City College, Class of 1922, a man of wit, learning, and humane wisdom, and dedicated to the perpetual renewal of the life of the mind.”
