Red+Company grew out of Stefan Killen Design, a design business I started in 1995 while living in a tiny Manhattan apartment. Initially I designed book covers, interiors, and catalogs for publishers, but over time expanded into identity and branding, annual reports, a wide variety of print collateral, and websites for a wide range of clients.
Red+Company is in part a rebrand, but also a mid-stream reboot that offers me new excitement and meaning in my work. The name speaks to my love of color but also to my larger interest in how the elements of design — the Company alongside Red — help shape content. Color, typography, composition, and language all contribute to communication that clarifies and informs or, alternately, muddles and confuses. The “plus” in the new name also speaks to my Swiss heritage and my interest in that small country’s remarkable art and design traditions.
Expect the same clean design, careful project analysis, and trustworthy service you’ve always experienced with Stefan Killen Design. I’ll continue designing websites, book covers, branding materials, annual reports, CDs, and other print collateral, and will expand services that are new to my business such as writing and editing, design consulting, and video art-direction.
Over the coming months you’ll see additional client projects added to this website’s Work section. Further down the road I’ll also share personal design and art projects I’m working on, including several books. This blog will showcase client work but more often will explore subjects I love: color, info-graphics, work by other designers and artists, and generally all things Swiss.
